Following the news that President Obama will use his executive authority to provide relief to millions of aspiring Americans, CREDO released the following statement:
“This is a historic move by the president,” said Murshed Zaheed, CREDO’s deputy political director. “We thank the president for taking executive action in the face of Republican intransigence to protect millions of American families from being ripped apart due to our broken immigration system. But at the same time there are still millions of undocumented immigrants who would have been given a path to citizenship in the bipartisan Senate bill and still remain at risk because they are not covered by the president’s order. We will keep fighting until Republicans in Congress stop blocking a meaningful immigration reform bill that creates a lasting solution.”
CREDO, a progressive group that advocates for the rights of immigrants, has been intensely engaging its 3.5 million members to pressure the White House and Congress to take executive action on immigration reform. CREDO staff also met with White House officials earlier today to stress the need for the president to go big on immigration reform.
Here are just a couple highlights detailing CREDO’s activism on the issue:
CREDO DELIVERS 260,000 PETITIONS TO THE WHITE HOUSE URGING PRESIDENT OBAMA TO GO BIG ON IMMIGRATION: CREDO, America’s Voice, Presente, AFL-CIO and a host of groups delivered more than 260,000 petitions to the White House today urging the president to use his executive authority to use all legal means available to expand deferred action to immigrants who would have qualified for legalization under the Senate’s immigration reform bill.

MORE THAN 5,000 CALLS TO CONGRESS IN SUPPORT OF COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM: CREDO activists poured in thousands of calls to members of Congress in both the House and Senate in support of meaningful immigration reform.
