CREDO on Fast Track deal: Congress shouldn’t throw Americans under the bus

In response to reports that Senate Finance Committee Chair Orrin Hatch, Ranking Member Ron Wyden and House Ways and Means Committee Chair Paul Ryan have reached an agreement to grant President Obama Trade Promotion Authority to jam the Trans-Pacific Partnership through Congress, CREDO Action released the following statement:

“Congress shouldn’t throw Americans under the bus by giving up its authority over this unprecedented giveaway to multinational corporations,” said Murshed Zaheed, CREDO’s Deputy Political Director. “Like the Trans-Pacific Partnership itself, the deal to grant the White House Trade Promotion Authority was negotiated in secret behind closed doors,” Zaheed added. “It is time for Democrats in Congress to stand up to corporate shills in Washington and do everything in their power to stop this secretive corporate power grab,” he continued.

CREDO has played a key role in the fight against Trade Promotion Authority and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Highlights of CREDO members’ activism on the Trans-Pacific Partnership so far in 2015 include:
