Website and companion video urge President Obama to keep his promises on Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan

November 5, 2015 – CREDO Action has launched a new website at ObamasEndlessWars.com highlighting President Obama’s broken promises in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The concept behind the microsite is spelled out in detail in a Medium.com piece entitled “President Obama’s broken promises on war and peace.”

The website includes a video that contrasts the president’s repeated promises to end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq – and not to put boots on the ground in Syria – with his subsequent failure to keep those promises by keeping troops in Afghanistan, sending troops back to Iraq and sending special operations forces to Syria.

INTERVIEW AVAILABILITY: CREDO’s Deputy Political Director Murshed Zaheed is available for telephone interviews. Contact Josh Nelson at jnelson@credoaction.com to arrange an interview.

If President Obama doesn’t change course in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, he will leave a legacy of endless war and broken promises,” said CREDO Deputy Political Director Murshed Zaheed. “President Obama’s string of broken promises is especially disappointing in light of his major diplomatic success on the Iran deal,” Zaheed added.

It doesn’t have to be like this,” Zaheed continued. “President Obama still has time to keep his promises and end the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria before he leaves office.

The website includes a petition to President Obama with the following text: “Keep your promises. End the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.” After signing the petition, activists are encouraged to make phone calls to the Obama administration with a similar message.

CREDO’S EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF ANTI-WAR ACTIVISM: Over the years, more than 700,000 CREDO activists have taken action to end or prevent U.S. military involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran. More than 93,000 of those activists have made phone calls to the White House and Congress in opposition to war.

CREDO’S LEADING ROLE IN SUPPORTING THE IRAN DEAL: CREDO’s opposition to President Obama’s broken promises in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria is particularly notable due to its leading role in support of the president’s nuclear deal with Iran. Within hours of the deal being announced on July 14, CREDO and allies launched StopWarWithIran.com to serve as a hub for progressive activism in support of the deal. The site generated more than 450,000 petition signatures and 57,000 phone calls to Democrats in Congress in support of the deal. CREDO activists across the country also spoke out for peace at hundreds of rallies, town halls and meetings with their members of Congress throughout the August recess.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 3.9 million activists, sending millions of petition signatures and more than 100,000 phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change. Follow CREDOmobile on Twitter.
