In response to Congressional Republicans and the Wall Street wing of the Democratic Party passing a $1.1 trillion appropriations bill that was chock full of handouts to big banks and mega wealthy political donors, CREDO released the following statement praising the progressive champions in Congress who put up a tenacious fight on behalf of taxpayers against big banks and big donors:

“Americans got to see something that almost never happens. Democrats fighting back against Wall Street when it really mattered,” said Becky Bond, political director at CREDO. “We didn’t win, but Senator Warren, Congressmen Grijalva and Ellison, Congresswoman Waters, and Minority Leader Pelosi, showed that they are willing to lead Democrats and pick a fight. Now it’s our job to hold the Democrats who voted for this obscene deal accountable so that next time they stand up for their constituents instead of selling out to Citibank.”

Highlights of CREDO members’ intense activism in opposition to the Cromnibus giveaway to bankers and mega wealthy political donors:

  • As the Senate debated the Cromnibus bill on Thursday and Friday, CREDO activists made more than 5,000 phone calls to Senate Democrats urging them to oppose the bill.
  • Today, CREDO activists are making phone calls to President Obama, Majority Leader Reid, Senators Schumer and Mikulski, and Minority Whip Hoyer to hold them accountable for choosing Wall Street over Main Street.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 3.5 million activists, sending millions of petition signatures and tens of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
