In response to the Senate’s confirmation of Dr. Vivek Murthy as surgeon general, CREDO released the following statement:

“Today’s vote should send a clear message to all Members of Congress that it is possible to take on the NRA and win,” said Becky Bond, political director at CREDO. “Congress has cowered to the NRA for far too long. The confirmation of Dr. Vivek Murthy as surgeon general shows that the NRA’s extreme agenda can be defeated.”

Here are some highlights of CREDO members’ activism in support of Dr. Murthy’s confirmation:

  • More than 120,000 CREDO activists have signed a petition urging Senate Democrats to stand up to the NRA and confirm Dr. Murthy.
  • More than 1,400 CREDO activists have called key Senate offices to voice their support for Dr. Murthy’s confirmation.

CREDO SuperPAC also helped defeat NRA-endorsed Democrat Debbie Halvorson in the 2013 special election Congressional primary for IL-2.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 3.5 million activists, sending millions of petition signatures and tens of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
