Today a broad coalition of civil liberties groups, including CREDO Mobile, Demand Progress, Campaign for Liberty, the Republican Liberty Caucus and whistleblowers, including Mark Klein and Thomas Drake, sent a letter (full text and signers below) to all members of Congress urging them to oppose the USA FREEDOM Act, which would reauthorize expiring sections of the PATRIOT Act, and instead allow section 215 of the PATRIOT Act to expire.

As the letter notes, the USA FREEDOM Act would “eviscerate numerous court challenges to lawless surveillance and provide for legal immunization and compensation of companies that provide the government with customers’ private information, even where that company knows it is unlawful.”
