STATEMENT: CREDO’s response to Leader Pelosi’s amplification of anti-abortion rhetoric

FYI – As a San Francisco based company with a long history of supporting reproductive health, CREDO Mobile expressed disappointment in Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s comments today on abortion.

“We expect stigmatizing, anti-abortion rhetoric from the extreme right wing and we expect the top Democrat in the House of Representatives to be a champion of women’s legal right to abortion,” said CREDO Senior Campaign Manager Heidi Hess. “Leader Pelosi’s comments, which reinforce right-wing talking points, are out of step with both the values of most Democrats and the district she represents in San Francisco,” Hess continued. “Women deserve access to abortion care whenever they need it, without apology.”

NOTE: With more than $3 million in donations, CREDO Mobile is the largest corporate contributor to Planned Parenthood. Of the more than $80 million we’ve donated to organizations committed to social change since 1985, almost $7 million has gone to groups fighting for abortion rights.

Earlier this week, CREDO announced that it will be making donations this month to three pro-choice groups – NARAL Pro Choice America, Planned Parenthood affiliates and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive – to support their work to provide and protect access to reproductive healthcare.

CREDO also fights for women’s right to reproductive healthcare through its relentless grassroots activism. In 2015 alone, 200,000 CREDO activists petitioned Republicans not to defund Planned Parenthood and over 155,000 petitioned Democrats to firmly stand with Planned Parenthood against right-wing attacks. CREDO activists also took to action in state governments, with over 110,000 petitioning governors not to defund Planned Parenthood clinics. And over 4,000 calls were made to Senate offices in the summer and fall in opposition to defunding. In September, nearly 150,000 activists demanded the Department of Justice investigate the attack on a Colorado Springs clinic as an act of domestic terrorism, and more than 130,000 called for Republicans to finally shut down the sham Planned Parenthood special committee and stop wasting time and money attacking women.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 3.9 million activists, sending tens of millions of petition signatures and more than 100,000 phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct actions for progressive change. Follow CREDOMobile on Twitter.
