CREDO released the statement below in response to the news that Roger Ailes has stepped down as CEO of Fox News following allegations of sexual harassment:
“Roger Ailes’ departure is a welcome development, but it alone won’t fix the deeply ingrained culture of sexism and misogyny at Fox News,” said CREDO Senior Campaign Manager Heidi Hess. “Fox’s problems with women go far beyond Ailes,” Hess continued. “The network must commit to a major culture shift and get misogyny and sexism off the air and out of the workplace entirely.”
In the past 12 hours, more than 20,000 CREDO members have signed a petition that reads as follows:
“Roger Ailes has, allegedly, sexually harassed multiple women working at Fox News. You must fire him immediately, without a golden parachute that would reward his behavior. You must also immediately launch an independent public review, not only of Ailes’ behavior, but of sexual harassment at Fox News, and implement reforms to make Fox News a safe place for women to work, both on and off the air.”
CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 4 million activists, sending millions of petition signatures and more than 100,000 phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
