When both the Arizona Senate and House passed disastrous legislation that would allow Arizona businesses to refuse service to gays and lesbians on religious grounds, CREDO activist Steve Muratore of Scottsdale immediately launched a petition on CREDOMobilize.com, urging Gov. Jan Brewer to veto the bill. The petition struck a major nerve, with more than 15,000 activists in Arizona and 18,000 activists in other states signing on in support. Hundreds of activists also made follow-up phone calls to Gov. Brewer’s office at Steve’s request. After the nation’s attention turned to Gov. Brewer, she agreed to veto the bill. This is the first of many attacks by the right-wing using similar tactics but we’ll keep fighting these bills in favor of equality.
