WINNING TOGETHER We are millions of people taking action for progressive change

Since Governor Jerry Brown’s last State of the State address, the landscape on fracking has changed dramatically. New York banned fracking, oil prices have plummeted, our state is experiencing the worst drought in 1,200 years, and, over massive public objections, California finalized fracking regulations even though legally-mandated state studies on the risks of fracking haven’t even been finished.

But instead of addressing California’s dangerous policy of encouraging fracking in his inaugural address today, Governor Brown didn’t even mention the issue, even as he once again spoke about the urgent need to confront climate change. In response to Governor Brown, CREDO, a progressive group working to ban fracking, released the following statement:

“Gov. Brown doesn’t have to live in a community with fracking wells, and he shouldn’t force that on other California families,” said Zack Malitz, campaign manager for CREDO. “Governor Brown is on the wrong side of the science, the wrong side of history and the wrong side of the overwhelming majority of his constituents – it’s time for him to follow New York’s lead and protect California from fracking.”

Nearly 25,000 CREDO activists have signed a petition urging Governor Brown to follow New York Governor Cuomo’s lead in prohibiting this toxic practice in our state.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of 3.5 million activists, sending millions of petition signatures and tens of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
