CREDO Action co-director Heidi Hess issued the following statement in response to a series of tweets from Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) on Saturday and Monday making the case for impeaching Donald Trump:
“How is it possible that a Republican member of Congress is willing to do more than House Democratic leadership to hold Donald Trump accountable?
Trump has repeatedly and flagrantly showed he’s temperamentally and morally unfit to hold the nation’s most powerful job. And for too long, elected Republicans have held their tongue, content to get tax cuts for their wealthy donors in exchange for loyal obedience to the president.
But every passing day with Donald Trump in the Oval Office represents an escalating threat to our collective well-being. This is a moral question, which is why it’s so heartening to see someone like Rep. Amash step up and show his party the way out of their bind.
Nancy Pelosi and the rest of her leadership team are running out of excuses for delaying the inevitable. They must hear Rep. Amash’s wake-up call for what it is and heed the growing bipartisan call for initiating impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump.”
