FYI — After Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen announced her intent to leave the Trump administration, CREDO Action Campaigns Director Nicole Regalado issued the following statement:
“As the architect behind baby jails and a public defender of family separation, Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen will be judged harshly by history. No matter what she tries to do next, people will remember her as the Trump loyalist who implemented one of the most cruel policies in modern American history.
“It’s imperative that we now turn up the heat on the Senate, and ensure they vote down any far-right ideologue who thinks Sec. Nielsen didn’t go far enough. At the absolute minimum, any nominee to fill her position in the Trump administration needs to publicly condemn family separation and pledge to never repeat anything even resembling that sort of cruelty. Any Senators, Democratic or Republican, who suggest they might settle for someone without at least that level of moral clarity can expect to hear from us.”
