FYI — CREDO Action released the following statement based on the joint press conference just held by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer calling on Mitch McConnell to pass the House’s background check bill:
“During the August recess, gun violence impacted thousands of people’s lives. In the face of this crisis, forty eight House Democrats asked Speaker Pelosi to call the House back into session to pass an assault weapons ban. She ignored them. We call on Speaker Pelosi to show real, bold leadership to end this crisis and pass an assault weapons ban in the House now,” said CREDO Action co-director Heidi Hess. “Passing HR 8 without its anti-immigrant provision should be a priority in the Senate, and we will continue to work towards it. But Speaker Pelosi can and should do much more to protect our families and communities from gun violence rather than just passing the buck to the Senate.”
