FYI – CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess released the following statement in response to news that some Senate Democrats are joining with Republicans to legitimize Trump’s wall as a way to end the shutdown:
“No one who claims to be a Democrat should help Trump rescue himself from his self-created shutdown or help him advance his racist immigration agenda,” said CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess. “Voters resoundingly rejected Trump’s hate in November,” Hess continued. “Democrats should be standing up for immigrants, rejecting Trump’s manufactured border crisis, blocking his wall, and resisting his racism at every turn, not going out of their way to compromise with his extremism.”
Hess added, “The shutdown is clearly backfiring and vulnerable Republicans are desperate for a way out. Mitch McConnell could call a vote to end it now. Now is the time to force his hand, not give him and his party an easy out.”
