CREDO released the statement below on today’s meetings between conservative Senate Democrats and Brett Kavanaugh:
“The only good reason for a Democratic Senator to meet with Brett Kavanaugh is to tell him directly to his face that they will oppose his confirmation,” CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess said. “Anything less is not just a complete waste of time, it is also a needless capitulation to the Republican lie that Kavanaugh is a fair jurist worthy of consideration for a seat on the Supreme Court,” she added. “If Sen. Schumer does not figure out how to unite and lead Senate Democrats in opposition to Kavanaugh’s confirmation – and fast – the American people will suffer the consequences for a generation.”
Here are a few details on what CREDO members are doing to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation:
- Today, CREDO members in Indiana and North Dakota are making calls to the offices of Sens. Donnelly and Heitkamp urging them to oppose Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
- More than 1,400 CREDO members have called Sen. Schumer’s office urging him to “keep his caucus in line and deliver 49 no votes on Brett Kavanaugh.” The full call script can be found here.
- More than 125,000 CREDO members have signed a petition calling on the Senate not to confirm Kavanaugh. The petition can be found here.
