FYI — In response to a vote in the United States Senate blocking President Trump’s national emergency declaration, CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess issued the following statement:
“We’re glad that some Republicans, in a rare show of courage, have joined Democratic Senators in rebuffing Trump’s latest racist attack on our communities, our Constitution and the rule of law. Trump’s ability to unconstitutionally advance his racist agenda is a direct result of Congress’ decades-long failure to oversee the emergency powers it grants the president.
“Democratic leaders in both houses of Congress should build on the momentum from this vote to reassert Congress’ authority and restrict the power an autocrat like Trump can access. They should also put a stop to Trump’s anti-immigrant fear mongering and border wall crusade, and seriously reconsider their stance on pushing impeachment. If being serially unfit for office and undermining foundational democratic principles isn’t grounds for impeachment, we’d like Speaker Pelosi to tell us what would be.”
