WINNING TOGETHER We are millions of people taking action for progressive change

CREDO released the following statement in response to Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

Trump just shattered the dreams of more than 800,000 immigrants and put them back at risk of deportation,” CREDO Political Director Murshed Zaheed said. “The Trump regime’s relentless attacks on immigrants are part of a white supremacist agenda that right-wing Republicans have been championing for years,” he continued. “Dreamers embody the spirit of the United States in a way that small-minded people like Trump will never understand.

Trump’s racist response to Charlottesville, his pardon of serial immigrant abuser Joe Arpaio and his heartless decision to end the DACA program are all blatant attempts to score political points with his white supremacist base,” Zaheed said. “Now he has put Dreamers’ fate in Congress’ hands,” he continued. “It is time for all Democrats and Republicans with a conscience to decide what side of history they want to be on,” Zaheed added. “Will they continue to stand by while the Nazi sympathizer in the White House attacks immigrants, or will they pass legislation to reinstate DACA and refuse to let right-wing extremists use Dreamers as a bargaining chip to expand immigration enforcement, build Trump’s wall or shut down our borders?

CREDO has a long history of advocating for immigrants in this country and funding leading organizations in the immigrant rights movement. A few details on CREDO’s campaigns this year and its history of funding can be found below:

125,000+ URGE SENATE DEMOCRATS TO BLOCK REPUBLICAN ATTACKS ON IMMIGRANTS: The Republican attack on immigrants isn’t limited to Trump’s racist regime. Republicans in Congress have also introduced several cruel and xenophobic bills this year. In response, more than 125,000 CREDO members have signed a petition calling on Senate Democrats to “block all legislation that would criminalize immigrants and ramp-up deportations.”

FIGHTING FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL: Since Trump took office, CREDO has run grassroots campaigns in support of stronger protections for immigrant communities in California, New York, Texas, Los Angeles and Chicago. In addition, more than 100,000 CREDO members have signed a petition urging governors to “resist any executive mandate or policy that divides and targets people based on their race and country of origin,” and more than 50,000 have signed a petition urging mayors to “do everything in your power to ensure that our city implements policies and practices that protect immigrants and refugees from harassment, detention and deportation by ICE, the Border Patrol or other government agencies.”

$700,000+ IN DONATIONS TO THE IMMIGRANT RIGHTS MOVEMENT: Through CREDO’s monthly donations program, CREDO members have donated more than $700,000 to leading immigrant rights groups including United We Dream, National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, National Immigration Law Center, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, National Council of La Raza, Mijente, Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Migrant Legal Action Program, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Detention Watch Network and American Immigration Law Foundation.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of over five million activists, sending millions of petition signatures and hundreds of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
