Here’s the latest on the fight for a Climate Debate… Tom Perez is attempting to drown out the Climate Debate resolution with a symbolic “recommitment” resolution to address climate change that does absolutely nothing. Here’s the resolutions packet for the meeting (Perez’s resolution is #2, the resolution for a Climate Debate is #5).
CREDO Action campaign manager Jelani Drew-Davi recently wrote an op-ed in The Hill on the urgent need for an official Climate Debate. Take a look at their reaction to this so-called resolution below. Let me know if you’d like to discuss more! –Marissa
“Tom Perez needs to realize that this resolution is a blatant mockery of one of one of the most serious problems of our time,” said CREDO Action campaign manager Jelani Drew-Davi. “Our climate is in crisis, but Perez put forward a recommitment resolution that’s purely symbolic rather than pushing for real, bold action.
“If Perez was serious about addressing our climate crisis, he would support a meaningful debate about climate change with the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates,” they continued. “The town halls by CNN and MSNBC and one-off questions in general debates won’t educate voters on the candidates’ solutions.
“We need to have real action to combat climate change, or we will kill our planet — but Tom Perez wants to push it under the rug until it’s too late for us all.”
CREDO Action is a leading member of the coalition of climate and progressive groups calling on the DNC to hold an official Climate Debate during the 2020 presidential primary. Over 225,000 activists and CREDO members recently signed a petition calling on the DNC to sanction an official Climate Debate in the 2020 primary.
CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of millions of activists, sending tens of millions of petition signatures and hundreds of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
