CREDO Action Campaign Manager Nicole Regalado released the statement below in response to the Trump administration’s efforts to modify the Flores settlement:

“Locking up children indefinitely is cruel and heartless, even for the Trump administration,” CREDO Action Campaign Manager Nicole Regalado. “It is nothing less than an assault on child safety and fundamental human dignity,” she continued. “Trusting ICE with the housing and nutrition of children is a recipe for even more suffering and abuse,” Regalado added. “These proposed regulations show that the Trump regime will stop at nothing to advance its horrific goal of deterring immigration by inflicting irreparable harm on children and their families.”

FLASH PROTEST OUTSIDE DHS SEC. NIELSEN’S HOME: On June 22, 2018, CREDO organized a flash protest with dozens of activists outside Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s Alexandria, Virginia home demanding her resignation. Nielsen was in her home during the protest and left shortly after it ended. At the protest, activists loudly played leaked audio of crying children who were separated from their parents at the border, marched with signs branding Nielsen a “child snatcher” and distributed “beware of child snatcher” leaflets throughout the neighborhood. 220,000+ PETITION CONGRESS: STAND UP FOR IMMIGRANT CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: CREDO’s petition to Congress, which launched on Thursday June 14, reads: “No child should be ripped from their parents arms. Pass the Humane Enforcement and Legal Protection for Separated Children Act now to protect the human rights of immigrant children and families in detention.” The petition can be found here.

150,000+ PETITION DHS: STOP SEPARATING FAMILIES AT THE BORDER: CREDO’s petition to Department of Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reads: “Separating families at the border is inhumane and unnecessary. Stop this cruel practice immediately.” The petition can be found here.

VIRAL VIDEOS VIEWED BY MORE THAN 12 MILLION PEOPLE ON FACEBOOK: CREDO’S viral videos on family separation feat. Sen. Jeff Merkley, Sen. Kamala Harris, Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Rep. Joe Kennedy III have reached more than 20 million people, been viewed over 12 million times and have been shared by over 260,000 people on Facebook alone. Highlights include:

$800,000 IN DONATIONS TO IMMIGRANT RIGHTS GROUPS: CREDO is also a major funder of immigrant rights groups. Through CREDO’s monthly donations program, the company has donated more than $800,000 to leading immigrant rights groups including United We Dream, America’s Voice, National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, National Immigration Law Center, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, National Council of La Raza, Mijente, Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Migrant Legal Action Program, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Detention Watch Network and American Immigration Law Foundation.
