CREDO released the statement below in response to Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly’s failure to forcefully denounce Trump’s plan to end birthright citizenship:
“Joe Donnelly’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and positions are morally reprehensible and politically foolish,” said CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess. “All Democratic politicians should have the integrity and courage of their convictions to forcefully and unequivocally denounce Donald Trump’s hateful, anti-immigrant proposal to eliminate birthright citizenship in the United States,” she continued. “By pretending even briefly that ending birthright citizenship is a reasonable idea worthy of consideration by the Senate, Donnelly is playing directly into Trump’s hands.”
Since this Wednesday morning, more than 40,000 people have signed CREDO’s petition calling on members of Congress in both parties to “publicly condemn Trump’s racist scapegoating and xenophobic attacks.”
CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of over five million activists, sending tens of millions of petition signatures and hundreds of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
