WINNING TOGETHER We are millions of people taking action for progressive change

CREDO released the statement below in response to reports that the Nebraska Public Service Commission has rejected the state permit for the Keystone XL pipeline:

This shortsighted and dangerous decision is a slap in the face to the people of Nebraska and the hundreds of thousands of Americans who weighed in this year urging the Public Service Commission to stop the pipeline,” CREDO Deputy Political Director Josh Nelson said. “But the nearly decade-long fight to stop Keystone XL does not end today,” Nelson said. “Pipeline fighters have been told time and time again that this pipeline is a done deal,” he continued, adding, “we did not stop fighting when Trump tried to force the pipeline’s approval earlier this year and we will not stop now.”

Earlier this year, more than 165,000 CREDO members submitted public comments urging the Nebraska Public Service Commission to reject the permit for the pipeline. Prior to that, CREDO members fought for more than six years to stop the Keystone XL Pipeline from being built, following the lead of local landowners, indigenous leaders and our friends at 350.org. A summary of CREDO’s activism and donations in opposing Keystone XL can be found below.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

97,000 ACTIVISTS HAVE SIGNED THE KEYSTONE XL PLEDGE OF RESISTANCE: More than 97,000 people have signed the Keystone XL Pledge of Resistance, committing to risk arrest in peaceful, dignified civil disobedience, if President Obama’s administration moves toward approving the Keystone XL pipeline. As part of the Pledge of Resistance, thousands of activists have been trained to lead or participate in direct actions where they would risk arrest.

$2,000,000+ DONATED TO GROUPS FIGHTING KEYSTONE XL: CREDO has donated well over $2 million to leading groups fighting the Keystone XL pipeline, including BOLD, 350.org, the Indigenous Environmental Network, Rainforest Action Network, Oil Change International, Friends of the Earth, Center for Biological Diversity, Sierra Club, NRDC, Stand.Earth and the League of Conservation Voters.

MORE THAN 4 MILLION PETITION SIGNATURES: CREDO Activists have generated more than 4.3 million petition signatures in opposition to Keystone XL.

MORE THAN 600,000 PUBLIC COMMENTS: CREDO activists have submitted 600,000 public comments to President Obama’s state department in opposition to Keystone XL.

MORE THAN 40,000 PHONE CALLS IN OPPOSITION TO KEYSTONE XL: CREDO Activists have made 42,804 phone calls to the White House, the State Department, the EPA, Members of Congress and others in opposition to Keystone XL.

283 PROTEST VIGILS ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 10,000 ACTIVISTS: Just 72 hours after the release of the State Department’s final environmental impact statement, CREDO organized 283 protest vigils in 49 states, with more than 10,000 total participants. It was the biggest, rapid-response, on-the-ground demonstration of Obama’s presidency to date.

CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of over five million activists, sending tens of millions of petition signatures and hundreds of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
