FYI – CREDO released the statement below in response to House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer expressing his willingness to fund Trump’s border wall in exchange for protections for Dreamers:
“Once again, Democratic leadership is trying to throw one immigrant community under the bus to help another,” CREDO Campaign Manager Nicole Regalado said. “Memo to Steny Hoyer: Dreamers are NOT bargaining chips,”
“Democrats could have used their leverage in spending bill negotiations to protect Dreamers without pitting immigrant communities against each other, but repeatedly chose not to fight,” Regalado said, adding, “if Democratic leaders like Steny Hoyer and Chuck Schumer continue trying to trade Dreamers for Trump’s border wall of hate, progressive activists will do everything we can to trade them for leaders who will actually fight for our values.”
CREDO has waged an aggressive campaign in support of protecting Dreamers without funding Trump’s border wall or otherwise pitting immigrant communities against each other. A few highlights of our campaign include:
130+ PROGRESSIVE GROUPS SEND LETTER TO DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP: In December, CREDO and United We Dream drafted and organized a letter from more than 130 progressive organizations demanding they ensure that a clean DREAM Act is included in any must-pass spending bill. Read the full letter here.
