CREDO released the statement below following today’s Senate votes on advancing legislation to end the government shutdown:
“Republicans have proven once again that they are incapable of governing,” CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess said. “They are too scared of Donald Trump and their racist base to do what is best for their constituents and end this cruel, unnecessary government shutdown,” Hess said. “Dozens of Senate Republicans voted for nearly identical legislation just last month,” she continued. “They owe their constituents an explanation.”
“Joe Manchin continues to be an embarrassment to the Democratic Party,” Hess added. “Anyone who supports Donald Trump’s racist border wall or thinks Brett Kavanaugh belongs on the Supreme Court has no business in Senate Democratic Leadership.”
CREDO members have made more than 12,000 phone calls urging senators to block Trump’s wall and end the government shutdown. Hundreds of thousands of CREDO members have also signed petitions with the same demands.
CREDO Action, part of CREDO Mobile, is a social change network of over five million activists, sending tens of millions of petition signatures and hundreds of thousands of phone calls to decision-makers each year. CREDO Action members also participate in meetings, protests and other direct action for progressive change.
