“If Perez was serious about addressing our climate crisis, he would support a meaningful debate about climate change with the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates,” said CREDO Action campaign manager Jelani Drew-Davi. “The town halls by CNN and MSNBC and one-off questions in general debates won’t educate voters on the candidates’ solutions.
“We need to have real action to combat climate change, or we will kill our planet,” they added, “but Tom Perez wants to push it under the rug until it’s too late for us all.”
Democratic activists cheered Mr. Nadler’s statements, but some groups may want more. CREDO Action, a network of progressive activists, said on Friday that Mr. Nadler needed to go beyond the obstruction-of-justice inquiry that was part of the Mueller report. Democratic aides said their investigation includes allegations of “corruption, obstruction and abuse of power.”
CREDO Action said while two town halls on climate change being organized by CNN and MSNBC in September are signs of incremental progress, a DNC-sanctioned debate would provide the best platform to educate voters about the candidates’ environmental plans.
“Tom Perez needs to realize that this resolution is a blatant mockery of one of one of the most serious problems of our time,” said CREDO Action campaign manager Jelani Drew-Davi. “Our climate is in crisis, but Perez put forward a recommitment resolution that’s purely symbolic rather than pushing for real, bold action.”
The crisis also prompted progressive group CREDO Action to launch a campaign this week to add pressure on lawmakers, with their focus spreading beyond the GOP-controlled Senate.
“Republicans are to blame for keeping gun control from becoming law and exacerbating the growing crisis of white supremacist terror, but a national catastrophe of this magnitude requires a bipartisan response. We cannot let either party off the hook,” said the group.
“If Speaker Pelosi calls the House of Representatives back into session to pass gun control legislation,” the group continued, “it shows that Democrats are willing to take bold action to keep us safe while Republicans hide in fear of the racist NRA.”
Such bold action means passing an assault weapons ban.
Doing so, said CREDO Action, “is a critical step to making sure these horrific attacks never happen again.”
Thaís Marques, campaign manager of CREDO Action, a liberal activist group, voiced a similar message, characterizing Nadler’s remarks as “a victory for the grassroots.”
“The rest of leadership needs to catch up with Rep. Nadler and over half of the Democratic caucus and publicly support a full impeachment inquiry with a broad scope,” she said Friday in a statement. “With every day that passes, Trump abuses the presidency to enrich himself, obstruct justice and enact hateful policies that target millions of Americans — we can’t wait any longer.”
Here’s the latest on the fight for a Climate Debate… Tom Perez is attempting to drown out the Climate Debate resolution with a symbolic “recommitment” resolution to address climate change that does absolutely nothing. In June, more than 25 progressive groups sent a letter to Pelosi demanding that she proceed with impeachment hearings immediately. …
The letter accused Pelosi of offering nothing more than “political excuses” for holding off on impeachment, adding that the nation is facing a constitutional crisis and that the framers placed the impeachment power in the Constitution precisely for the purpose of confronting a lawless president like Trump.
It was signed by not only Justice Democrats, but also CREDO Action, Citizens Impeachment Coalition, Democracy for America, Women’s March, and the Working Families Party, among many others.

A new campaign wants corporations like AT&T and Amazon to stop giving money to anti-LGBTQ politicians—and, until that happens, the organization suggests consumers stop putting dollars in those companies’ accounts, Advocate.com reported. The political arm for CREDO Mobile—a mobile virtual network directing revenue to progressive causes—launched a petition campaign today targeting AT&T, T-Mobile, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Dell. AT&T, for example, donated $2.755 million to 193 anti-gay politicians in the midterm election cycle, according to the group. Heidi Hess, the co-director of CREDO Action, a liberal advocacy group said Murray’s statement puts more pressure on Pelosi and Senate Democratic allies who back her cautious strategy to move ahead with impeachment proceedings.
“Momentum is growing rapidly in favor of impeachment with yet another Senate Democrat in leadership urging House Democrats to hold Donald Trump accountable for his lawlessness,” Hess said Monday. “Speaker Pelosi should listen well to the calls of not only almost half of her caucus, but also those of her colleagues in the Senate as well.
“It’s beyond time to officially move forward with impeachment — not just doing so in what ‘essentially’ counts as an inquiry. Continuing to wait or playing at semantics amounts to tacit approval of Trump’s cruel, racist policies and his impeachable offenses,” she added.
Progressive advocacy group Credo Action echoed [John] Nichols in a statement following Mueller’s testimony.
“Donald Trump has committed impeachable offenses and needs to be held accountable,” said Credo Action co-director Josh Nelson. “But by refusing to open an impeachment inquiry, House Democratic Leadership is ignoring the facts laid out by Robert Mueller at his testimony.”
“Unwillingness to use this mounting evidence,” said Nelson, “makes Congress complicit as Trump shreds the Constitution while enacting cruel and racist policies that endanger our communities. Democrats can and must do better.”
FYI — Here’s CREDO’s response to today’s spending bill vote in the House: “Despite Robert Mueller testifying about Donald Trump’s impeachable offenses yesterday, Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Leadership will help the Trump administration pass a budget bill today to lift the debt limit for two years without extracting any meaningful policy concessions. CREDO Action, MoveOn, and Daily Kos collected over 120,000 petition signatures for this effort, which were delivered to the global HQs of Marriott and Choice Hotels on Thursday, July 11,” Barrow told Forbes.

Barrow says activists will not let up: “The coalition of grassroots groups will continue to reach out and follow up with major hotel companies to ensure they make similar public statements rejecting any collusion with ICE in its raids.”
A growing online petition has forced hotel giants across the country to make clear whether they are willing to allow U.S. immigration authorities to house detained migrants at their establishments.
Launched by CREDO Action, the online petition calls on hotel giants, including Hilton, Marriott International, Best Western, Wyndham, Red Roof, Choice, Drury, G6 Hospitality and the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to “publicly refuse” to let the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) use their properties “as jails for immigrants.”
The political arm for CREDO Mobile, a mobile virtual network directing revenue to progressive causes, launched a petition campaign today targeting AT&T, T-Mobile, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Dell. Officials say those companies alone have donated more than $5 million to homophobic politicians, all while providing corporate sponsorship to Pride events and marketing to LGBTQ consumers.
“It is unacceptable for corporations to co-opt the pride flag in order to make a profit off the LGBTQ community while simultaneously giving millions to some of the most hateful, homophobic members of Congress,” said Campaign Manager Thaís Marques. of CREDO Action.
“AT&T, T-Mobile, Amazon, Google and other corporations, need to put their money where they say their values are and stop financing the politicians who are on the frontlines of Trump’s war on LGBTQ people.”
